History
The design for this release was drawn from the Japanese Helmet collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The mint drew specific inspiration from a 17th-centuryhelmet that is currently on display in Gallery 377. The stunning artifact includes beautiful decorative art on the upper dome inspired by Japanese folk art. Meanwhile, the shape of the helmet was based on felt hats worn by European traders and missionaries.
