The latest entry in the Perth Mint’s Gods of Olympus series features Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, love, and passion. She’s featured on this gorgeous bullion collectible in a Brilliant Uncirculated finish that showcases the coin’s original-mint luster and the full magnificence of artwork that pays tribute to the iconic theme of Aphrodite’s birth. According to myth, she rose full-formed from a foaming sea after a clash between Titans, an image that has appeared for centuries in sculptures and paintings all over the Western world. The 2022 Tuvalu Gods of Olympus Aphrodite 1 oz Silver Coin shows her surrounded by adoring creatures of the sea, and is now available from Provident Metals.
The 2022 Tuvalu Gods of Olympus Aphrodite Silver Coin comes in themed box packaging, inside a secure capsule. Each shipment is tracked and fully insured against even the most remote chance of loss or damage by the team at Provident Metals.
The coin’s obverse side features Ian Rank-Broadley’s famous effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, confirming it as legal tender of Tuvalu. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “1 oz 9999 Ag,” “2022,” “TUVALU,” “1 DOLLAR,” and “QUEEN ELIZABETH II.”
The Goddess of Love features on the reverse, rising above the sea foam clad in flowing robes with a dove perched on one hand, surrounded by gulls and fish, mollusks and dolphins. A swan spreads it wings in the foreground, accompanied by the inscription “APHRODITE.”
Aphrodite was a complicated figure in ancient Greek myth, and her seeming contradictions served as a wealth of material for myths and stories. She was a goddess of love and lust, pleasure and beauty who protected courtesans and served as patroness of life’s most delightful luxuries. By the same token, she could represent violent passion and the excesses to which it could drive both men and gods: wise mortals were wary of earning her wrath, the Spartans called her “Aphrodite the Warlike,” and she bore epithets like “Killer of Men” and “Gravedigger.” It all made her utterly compelling both to the ancient Greek imagination and to the modern one, making her a perfect subject for the Perth Mint’s landmark Gods of Olympus series.
