Its engraved full frontal portrait with its trunk and tusk on display. The South African coat of arms is engraved at the bottom along with inscriptions that read: SOUTH AFRICA, and BIG FIVE 2022.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 2022 South African Big Five Elephant 1 oz Gold Coin, the heads of two elephants are featured next to one another in a side-by-side view. It also features the inscriptions: TWENTY RAND, 1 oz, and Pt 9999.
