Obverse
The national coat of arms of Somalia features on the obverse side of 2022 Somalia Elephant Gold Coins. This design field includes a crowned shield that has a background field of horizontal lines with a single star at the center. There is a leopard on either side of the shield and crossed spears and fern leaves beneath. There is a ribbon draped across the spears and a beaded border design. The inscriptions on this face include SOMALI REPUBLIC, 2022, and 20 SHILLINGS.
Reverse
An elephant family is depicted in the reverse design of the 2022 Somalia Elephant 1/2 Gram Gold Coin. In this years exclusive design for the series, an adult elephant is shown walking along the savanna with its young calf right by its side. The two are visible in left-profile relief and you can see the full size of the mature African bush elephant when compared to the small frame of its calf. The design element includes trees on the horizon, the sun breaking into the rim of the design field, and birds flying overhead. The short grass of the savanna rolls off into the distance. Inscriptions on this side read AFRICAN WILDLIFE, ELEPHANT, and 0.5 G AU 999.9.
History
Somalia Elephant Gold Coins underwent a significant expansion in 2016. As the series introduced fractional-ounce silver coins and its first-ever platinum coin, the gold series gained weights such as 1/25 oz, 1/50 oz, 1 Gram, and 1/2 Gram gold.
