Obverse
A Lunar Tiger prowls on the obverse of 2022 Proof Rwandan Lunar Tiger Silver Coins. The design offers a stylized depiction of the tiger set on a field with a shattered-glass visual effect. This is used on all coins in the Rwandan Lunar Ounce release for added visual brilliance. The inscriptions on this field of the coin include LUNAR OUNCE, 2022, YEAR OF THE TIGER, 1 OZ FINE SILVER 999, and the Chinese symbol for the tiger.
Reverse
The coat of arms of Rwanda is found in the reverse design of the 2022 Proof Rwandan Lunar Tiger 1 oz Silver Coin. The design element includes a basket at the center with a sorghum stem on one side and a coffee branch on the other. These are then flanked by traditional warrior shields with a depiction of the sun above the seal and a cogwheel beneath. The inscriptions on this field are in Kinyarwanda, the native tongue of many indigenous Rwandans, and read BANKI NKURU YU RWANDA, AMAFARANGA, MIRONGO, ITANU, and 50.
History
The Rwandan Lunar Ounce Series debuted in 2017 during the Year of the Rooster. The collection offers a new design each year. It was released at the same time as the Rwandan Nautical Ounce Series, with both now available alongside the popular Rwandan Wildlife Series that has been in production since 2008.
