Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse side of 2022 Proof Niue Koala and Joey Silver Coins. This design comes from Ian Rank-Broadley and was created in 1998 for the Royal Mint to serve as the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty. The image shows the Queen in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Inscriptions on this side include ELIZABETH II, NIUE 2022, ONE DOLLAR, and 1 OZ 999 SILVER.
Reverse
An adult koala is depicted in the reverse design of the 2022 Proof Koala and Joey 1 oz Silver Coin with its young Joey. The design shows the two creatures in the midst of a lush eucalyptus tree. As the leaves and branches cascade around it, the design shows the adult koala climbing the trunk of a tree as its young Joey holds on. The design field features an inscription of KOALA.
History
The koala has been a popular figure on Australian coins for decades. Bullion collections from the New Zealand Mint, Perth Mint, and Royal Australian Mint, to mention a few, offer Australian-themed designs with koalas on the reverse of the coins.
