Obverse
A profile effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the coin’s obverse side confirmed it as legal tender of the island nation of Niue. It’s surrounded by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “TEN DOLLARS” and “2022.”
Reverse
The coin’s reverse side features Flash — the Barry Allen version of the character — in action and standing in heroic poses alongside his distinctive lightning bolt sigil, with a comic panel montage forming a backdrop behind him. Inscriptions at the coin’s rim verify the purity and weight of its silver and show DC’s copyright and trademark.
History
The Flash was a classic Golden Age superhero character who debuted in 1939, one of the original characters to pioneer the DC Comics brand. After superhero comics experienced a short period of decline after World War 2 as other genres rose to prominence and controversy arose about the influence of superheroes on young minds, the so-called Silver Age of comics brought superheroes back to commercial prominence, and the Flash was one of the first characters to lead the charge when Barry Allen took up the mantle of the Scarlet Speedster in 1956. This incarnation of the character has been persistently popular ever since, making him a natural subject for a collectible like this one.
