Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of the 2022 Niue Norse God Series Freya Silver Coins. This design captures the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. The field includes a Nordic-themed border design and offers inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, NIUE, TWO DOLLARS, and 2022.
Reverse
In this reverse design of 2022 Norse God Series Freya 1 oz Silver Coins, the Intaglio Mint offers a depiction of the Goddess of Love, Fertility, Battle, and Death. Freya is associated with love and fertility, yet fulfills a vital role in the battles of humans. The design features an image of Freya riding her chariot as it is driven by two cats. Inscriptions read ONE TROY OUNCE, .999 FINE SILVER, and the Intaglio Mint mark is included next to Freyas chariot along the edge of the coin.
History
Freyas role as a member of the Valkyrie gives her a significant presence in the world of human death and the afterlife. As she rides over battlefields either in her cat-driven chariot or on a wild boar, she selects half of those slain heroically in battle for ascension to her hall at Folkvangar, while the other half to go Odin in Valhalla.
