History

The Czech Mint opened in 1993 following the split of Czechoslovakia. Though quite young, the Czech Mint has accomplished quite a bit during its brief existence. Not only does it hold the record for producing the largest platinum medal, but it also was the first mint to use a hologram design element on a coin. Perhaps the most popular product the mint produces is the Czech Lion. In the same way that Canada has its Maple Leaf coin and America has its Eagle, so too does the Czech Mint have its Lion, which has been released annually since 2017.
