Obverse

In the obverse design of the 2022 Mexican Libertad Gold Coins, the Mexican Mint features the Mexican coat of arms. This design shows a golden eagle on a prickly pear cactus in left-profile relief. The eagle has raised wings with a serpent in its talons and beak. Inscriptions include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above the seal, with a wreath of oak and laurel below.

Reverse

Winged Victory is on the obverse side of 2022 Mexican Libertad Gold Coins. This design was modernized for the gold series in 2000 and shows the statue of Victory in three-quarter-profile relief. The inscriptions on this field of the coin read 1/4 ONZA, ORO PURO, 2022 LEY .999, and the OM mint mark of the Mexican Mint.

History

Founded in 1535, the Mexican Mint is the oldest mint in the Western hemisphere. Established by Spanish conquistadors, the Mexican Mint would eventually strike coins for the Spanish Crown to use in its colonies in the Western world. Today, it is the sovereign mint of Mexico.
