Obverse
The obverse side features an effigy of Elizabeth II to confirm the coin as legal tender. She’s accompanied by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “TEN DOLLARS,” and “2022.”
Reverse
The reverse side of this coin features the duel and the major characters whose actions set the stage for it. Anakin and Obi-Wan are sculpted in pure silver with a frosted finish in the foreground, clashing with lightsabers against a vivid, colorized landscape of the volcano planet Mustafar. Facial portraits of Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme Amidala, and Emperor Palpatine complete the design against a mirror-finish backdrop.
History
One of the most recognizable symbols of theStar Warsuniverse, since it made its debut in 1977, has been the lightsaber: an iconic hybrid between a laser and a sword that was the signature weapon of the Jedi Knights and their evil opponents who serve the Dark Side of the Force. The first lightsaber duel, featuring Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi and David Prouse as Darth Vader, was a fairly simple and low-key affair compared to the epic showcases of fight choreography and high-stakes drama that would become key to many later films. But it set in motion a tradition that would eventually produce the most ambitious sword battle ever filmed, Anakin and Obi-Wan’s confrontation inStar Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
