History

The Central Mint is a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the Republic of China. The mint originally opened in 1920 in Shanghai as the Shanghai Mint. Today the mint produces the Chinese Panda Series, which is highly regarded worldwide.

Obverse

The obverse design features two pandas sliding down a snowy hill. There is a large slide in the background, and a pair of skis lies in front of the fluffy bears. Both coins feature the same design with different colorizations.

On the Day Coin, a clear blue sky is seen above the pandas. The sun shines brightly creating a warmth on the coins. The year of mintage and the skis are shown in bright yellow. On the Night Coin, the moon shines in a dark blue night sky. The image appears shadowy, and the year of mintage and skis are a dark midnight blue.

Reverse

The reverse image of the Temple of Heaven is not colorized. The temple, which is located in Beijing, is one of the most well-known buildings in all of China. The Temple of Heaven contains the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. Surrounding the design are engravings of the nation of issue and the year of mintage.
