Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Coins is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. The longest-reigning monarch in British history, Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief without a crown or tiara. The field has radial lines in the background with inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, 50 DOLLARS, and 2021.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Platinum Coin features an image of the sugar maple leaf. A long-running depiction of Canadian provinces that dates back to British and French colonization of the region, the sugar maple leaf is revered today as the national emblem of Canada. The design on this side depicts a large sugar maple leaf with inscriptions of CANADA, 9995, FINE PLATINUM, and 1 OZ PLATINE PUR. There are radial lines in the background on this side as well, with a micro-laser engraved maple leaf privy mark also featured. This privy mark has a 22 at the center that is only visible under magnification.
History
The design of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse of these coins comes from Susanna Blunt. This is the fourth-generation effigy during the Queens reign and just the second from a Canadian artist. It was created in 2003.
