Obverse

The Musikverein and its grand pipe organ feature in the obverse design of 2022 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins. This design focuses on the pipe organ in the Musikverein, a large, fixed structure within the Golden Concert Hall that was installed in 1907 and recently refurbished in 2011. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 1/4 UNZE GOLD 999.9, 2021, and 25 EURO.

Reverse

Musical instruments are shown in the reverse design element of the 2022 Austrian Philharmonic 1/4 oz Gold Coin. This collection of musical instruments includes eight instruments in all that represented four different types of instruments. There is one large cello in the center with a bassoon, a harp, and a French horn in the background field. The cello at the center is flanked on either side by two violins. The inscription on this side includes WEINER PHILHARMONIKER.

History

The 1/4 oz gold coin in the Austrian Philharmonic Series was introduced in 1989 when the series debuted. A 1 oz gold coin was offered that same year. There were three subsequent additions introduced at different points in the history of the series. These included the 1/10 oz coin in 1991, the 1/2 oz coin in 1994, and the 1/25 oz coin in 2014.
