Obverse

The image of Liberty shown here is a front-facing relief in which she walks toward the viewer holding aloft a torch as she carries an olive branch. The background includes sun rays, the U.S. Capitol Building, and a ring of 50 stars around the rim of the field. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and 2022.
Reverse
An American bald eagle graces the reverse field of the 2022 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin. This depiction of the bald eagle captures the head of the aerial predator in left-profile relief. Its piercing gaze stares right back at you with its powerful beak captured in incredible detail.
History
The all-new bald eagle design on the reverse comes from Jennie Norris. Her design was chosen from a field of more than 30 entries to replace the 1986 design from Miley Busiek that had featured on the coins from 1986 to mid-2021.
