The original design that featured on the American Eagle Gold Coin reverse from 1986 to June 2021 came from Miley Busiek. Exclusive to this series, it featured a family of bald eagles in and around the nest. In the new design that debuted in July 2021, Jennie Norris takes a closer look at the individual eagle with a portrait of the bald eagle.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins is a front-facing image of Liberty. This front-facing depiction shows Liberty striding toward the viewer with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The field includes a ring of 50 stars around the design element with sun rays in the background. The inscriptions read LIBERTY and 2022.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022 American Eagle Gold Coin comes with a depiction of the head of the American bald eagle. Its physical features are beautifully captured in this design, from its striking gaze and powerful beak to its layered plumage. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD 5 DOLLARS.
History
Jennie Norris is a member of the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program. Her new design for the reverse of the American Eagle Gold Coins was chosen from a field of more than 30 possible designs. This is her first major contribution to American coinage.

2022 American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins available here come with Mint State 70 grades and plastic slabs. Considered perfect specimens, each one has full, original mint luster and no flaws. Coins with a First Day of Issue label were received by the PCGS for grading within 24 hours of release.
