Obverse
Liberty is on the obverse side of the 2022 American Eagle Gold Coin. The depiction of Liberty that graces the American Eagle Gold Series comes from Augustus Saint-Gaudens and was designed in 1907. The front-facing effigy of Liberty is accompanied by inscriptions of LIBERTY and 2022.
Reverse
In the reverse design of 2022 American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins, the US Mint features the all-new bald eagle design from Jennie Norris. This is the first full-year release of the new design showcasing the head of a bald eagle in left-profile relief. Inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD 5 DOLLARS.
History
The new design from Jennie Norris debuted in mid-2021 after the US Mint gave the original design from Miley Busiek one last rollout in the series. In July 2021, the mint changed over to this new depiction of the American bald eagle. From 2022 onward, this is the permanent and only design that will feature on the reverse of the coins.
