The new design found on the reverse of the 2021 Proof American Eagle Type 2 Silver Coin comes from Emily Damstra. A highly skilled and experienced coin designer, Ms. Damstra contributed her design as part of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program and it was chosen from a field of more than 30 other designs to be the new reverse image for the series.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2021 Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins is the image of Walking Liberty. This design comes from Adolph A. Weinman and was first created in 1916. As a new inclusion with the Type 2 release, the US Mint now features Weinmans original AW signature mark on the obverse. The inscriptions on this side include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2021 Proof American Eagle Silver Type 2 Coin debuts all-new artwork depicting the might and power of the American bald eagle. Here, the bird is shown flying through the air with a large oak branch in its talons. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum 1 oz. Fine Silver, One Dollar, and the W mint mark. The coins of the Type 2 release now feature a variation in the reeded edge as a means of anti-counterfeiting defense.

History

Ms. Damstras experience in wildlife- and nature-themed designs is not limited to this latest contribution to the US Mint. She has previously contributed two designs to the ATB Series at the mint, and also worked on two design collections for the Royal Canadian Mint.

2021 Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins in this listing are near-perfect specimens. PR69 coins have full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detractions. Acceptable flaws at this grade include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be outside the primary fields. DCAM coins are proof specimens with strong, frosted designs that contrast with deeply-mirrored, clear fields. First Strike coins are those received by the PCGS for certification within 30 days of release.
