Obverse

The obverse of 2021-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coins comes with Augustus Saint-Gaudens original 1907 design of Liberty. The image shows Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand, an olive branch in her left, and rays of sunshine behind her figure. The U.S. Capitol Building is visible at the feet of Liberty as the modern ring of stars around the field includes 50 in total, one for each state in the Union. Inscriptions include Liberty, 2021, and the W mint mark from the West Point Mint.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin is a depiction of a family of bald eagles. This design was created specifically for this series in 1986 and has graced the reverse of all coins in the series, BU, proof, and burnished, since that year. Inscriptions include United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Gold – 50 Dollars.

History

The 2021 release of American Eagle Gold Coins with the original design combinations includes all four weights in the BU series and all four weights in the Proof series. The Burnished coin will only be issued in 2021 with the refreshed Type 2 design.
