Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of 2021 Tuvalu Gods of Olympus Hades Silver Coins. This right-profile portrait of the Queen was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and shows Her Majesty wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include QUEEN ELIZABETH II, TUVALU 5 DOLLARS, 5 OZ 9999 AG, and 2021.
Reverse
In the reverse design of 2021 Gods of Olympus Hades 5 oz Silver Coins, Perth Mint features its original design of the God of the Underworld and Ruler of the Dead, Hades. He is shown here as he sits upon his throne with his trusty three-headed demon dog, Cerberus, at his side. The inscriptions on this side include only HADES and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.
History
Hades is one of the three leading gods from Greek mythology. Together with his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, Hades helped take down the Titans and pave the way for the gods to rule the world. However, while his brother Zeus assumed control over Mount Olympus as the king of the gods, Poseidon was given control of the seas and Hades was relegated to the Underworld to rule over the dead.
