Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2021 St. Helena Una and The Lion Silver Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem Crown. This effigy of the Queen debuted at the Royal Mint in 2015 and featured first on 2016-dated coins. It was created by Jody Clark. The inscriptions on this face include ELIZABETH II, D.G. REGINA F. D., ST HELENA, and 2 POUNDS.
Reverse
Queen Victoria is imagined as Una in the design on the reverse of 2021 St. Helena Una and The Lion 2 oz Silver Coins. This shows Queen Victoria in the role as Una with a scepter in her right hand as her left hand rests on the mane of a powerful, roaring lion. The inscriptions on this field read UNA AND THE LION, 2 OZ, .999, AG, and 2021.
History
The concept of Una and Lion on British coin designs comes from the 1590 poem from Edmund Spenser. His epic poem The Faerie Queene was first published in 1590, but had previously been presented by Spenser to Queen Elizabeth I in 1589. The poem consists of six books and has an astonishing text with more than 36,000 lines and more than 4,000 stanzas.
