The design element has a crowned shield at its very center with horizontal lines behind a single star in the center. The shield is supported by leopards using forepaws and one hind leg, while the other hind leg of each leopard is featured standing on a set of crossed spears that include crossed fern leaves and a ribbon banner. The inscriptions on this side include Somali Republic, 20 21, and 500 Shillings. The entire design field is surrounded by a beaded border element.

Reverse

In the reverse design of the new 2021 Somalia Elephant Silver Coin, an adult African bush elephant is featured as it walks toward the viewer. This particular beast is shown in front-facing relief with its large ears flapped out to its sides as its tusks point forward and its long trunk hangs out of the design field and reaches into the border element where the inscriptions are located.
