Obverse

A Catawba figure is captured in right-profile relief on the obverse of 2021 Proof Tennessee Catawba Cave Salamander Silver Coins. This figure is featured along with inscriptions of Catawba, 999 Silver, 2021, One Dollar, and One Ounce. The figure wears a military jacket common among European-American military officers of the colonial era in North America.

Reverse

The Tennessee cave salamander is depicted in the reverse design of 2021 Proof Tennessee Catawba Cave Salamander 1 oz Silver Coins. This depiction shows a small salamander in right-profile relief. The Tennessee cave salamander is so named because it is endemic to streams running through caves in the Appalachian Mountains, particularly in the region of the Cumberland Plateau. The inscriptions on this face read Tennessee Cave Salamander, Jamul Sovereign Nation, and America.

Catawba Indian Nation people are part of a federally recognized tribe. As of 2010, the tribe has an estimated population of 3,370, with many of the modern-day members of the tribe now living in North Carolina and South Carolina.
