Obverse

The national seal of the federal government features a Mexican golden eagle on the branch of a prickly pear cactus as it devours a rattlesnake. Though the image itself is rooted in the Codex Mendoza, an Aztec codex that symbolizes the history of the Aztec rulers in the region, and you will find the Codex Mendoza at the top of the design ring that includes historic versions of the Mexican coat of arms. The only inscription on this face of the coin is Estados Unidos Mexicanos.

Reverse

In the reverse design element, the 2021 Mexican Libertad Silver Coin features a depiction of the statue of Winged Victory. The three-quarter side view of Victoria featured here is based on the statue of Winged Victory that stands at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The statue itself was commissioned in 1910 by the government and made from copper. When the Mexican Independence Victory Column was erected in 1921 to mark 100 years of independence, Winged Victory was placed atop the column.
