J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter universe launched in 1997 with the publishing of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. In 1999, she sold the feature-film rights to Warner Bros., and her first novel was later adapted for theatrical release in 2001. Known as Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone around the world, the film was actually titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone in the United States.
