Obverse
The obverse side of the 2021 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Gold Coin features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the sixth-generation effigy of the Queen to feature on Australian coins and the first since 1966 to include her shoulders and neckline in the bust. The Queen is wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown and is featured in right-profile relief. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include Elizabeth II, Australia, and 100 Dollars.
Reverse
On the reverse face of the 2021 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin is an image of a red kangaroo species crouched in the Outback. The kangaroo is shown with its muscular back legs crouched as it short front arms balance its figure. In the background field, you can see the Waratah plant and the Kangaroo Palm. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read Australian Kangaroo, 2021 1 oz 9999 Gold, and the P mint mark of the Perth Mint.
History
Australian Kangaroo Gold Coins are available in 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold, as well as a stunning 1 Kilo gold coin. The 1 oz and fractional-ounce coins share the reverse design mentioned here, while the 1 Kilo coin features the ever-popular depiction of a leaping red kangaroo against a backdrop of rays of sunshine.
