The new design to come to the 2021 American Eagle Silver Coin is part of a reverse redesign on both the silver and gold coins of the American Eagle Series for the 35th anniversary of the program. Each coin will receive its own new reverse design, with Emily Damstra creating the new artwork for the American Eagle Silver Coin. However, it will be mid-2021 before the new artwork is ready, having been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other production constraints facing the US Mint in 2020.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins is an image of Walking Liberty. This design was featured on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947 and was designed by Adolph A. Weinman. The design captures the full figure of Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag draped over her shoulders and branches of oak and laurel in her left hand. Inscriptions on this side include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse field of the 2021 American Eagle Silver Coin comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The current design, available for its final time, comes from John Mercanti. The emblem features a front-facing bald eagle with the US national shield on its chest, arrows of war in one talon, an olive branch of peace in the other, and 13 stars in a triangular cluster above its head. The inscriptions on this face read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Silver – One Dollar.

History

The upcoming design change is part of the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Silver Coins. The reverse design will change to feature an American bald eagle in flight with its wings flapped behind its figure and its talons clutching an oak branch.

Acceptable flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines found outside the primary focal points of the coin.
