2021 marks the start of a new era for the American Eagle Gold and Silver Coins. After 35 years featuring the same design combinations, respectively, both coins received a refreshed reverse design element. For the American Eagle Gold Coin, the result is a new depiction of the bald eagle in an up-close design created by Jennie Norris. The new design on the reverse side of American Eagle Gold Coins comes from Jennie Norris. Ms. Norris submitted her design for consideration as a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program. The design she created was chosen from a collection of more than 30 possible options and debuts in the series with the release of 2021 Type 2 coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2021 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins is the effigy of Lady Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. He created this design in 1907 for the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin at the direct request of President Theodore Roosevelt. The image shows Liberty in front-facing relief holding aloft a torch to light the way and carrying an olive branch of peace in her left hand. The inscriptions on this face include LIBERTY and 2021.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2021 American Eagle Gold Coins comes with a new vision of the American bald eagle. The new design from Ms. Norris depicts the head of a bald eagle in left-profile relief. The birds features are captured with an incredible level of detail in this new design. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD 25 DOLLARS.
History
There has been only one previous design alteration for the American Eagle Gold Coins, and it was a minor one. In 1992, the US Mint to Arabic numerals from Roman numerals in its date marks.

2021 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins listed here are in perfect condition. Coins with an MS70 grade have full, original mint luster and no detractions. Early Release coins are those received by the NGC within 30 days of the US Mints release of the coins to the public.
