Obverse
Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse side of 2021 American Eagle Gold Coins. This design comes from the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin and graced the obverse of that specimen from 1907 to 1933. Libertys figure is featured in front-facing relief as she walks forward holding a torch out in her right hand and carrying an olive branch with her left. There are sun rays behind her figure, the U.S. Capitol Building is at her feet, and a ring of 50 stars surrounds the field. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and 2021.
Reverse
An all-new depiction of the American bald eagle features in the reverse design of 2021 American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins. Created by Jennie Norris, this effigy shows the bald eagles head in left-profile relief. You will notice each of the feathers in its plumage in great detail, as well as its steely gaze and its powerful hooked beak. The inscriptions on this field have been rearranged to accommodate the new design, but remain the same with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 5 DOLLARS, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD all included.
History
This is the first major design change for the American Eagle Gold Series. The only previous change to the design fields included switching from Roman numerals to Arabic numerals for the date marks. This occurred in 1992.
