After a brief pause in coining so that new dies could be installed in its coining presses, the United States Mint introduced its 2021 Type 2 coins in the summer of 2021. The coins bear the new reverse design from Jennie Norris. Ms. Norris submitted her design in 2020 as a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program. Her design was chosen from a group of more than 30 different designs to grace the American Eagle Gold Series going forward.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2021 American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin is Augustus Saint-Gaudens vision of Lady Liberty. The image of Liberty shown here is front-facing and shows Liberty with a torch held up in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Rays of sunshine frame her figure from behind as a ring of 50 stars encircles the field. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2021, and the initials of Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Reverse

The reverse side of 2021 American Eagle Gold Type 2 Coins is an image of the American bald eagle. The design shows the bald eagles head in left-profile relief with its hooked beak, steely gaze, and detailed plumage all captured beautifully in the design. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 5 DOLLARS, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD.

History

The American Eagle Gold Coin now features a new design for the first time in the history of the series. The 35^th anniversary of the American Eagle Series brings new designs to both the gold and silver bullion coins.
