Obverse

Winged Victory is the design element featured on the obverse side of 2020 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coins. The image is based on the Victory depiction from the 50 peso gold Centenario coin issued in 1921. It shows Victory with wings holding a wreath crown out in her right hand and broken chains in her left hand. The volcanic mountain peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl are visible in the distant background. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Plata Pura, 2020 Ley .999, and MO for the Mexican Mint mark.

Reverse

The symbol of the federal government of Mexico is shown on the reverse of 2020 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coins. The national seal includes a golden eagle on a cactus as it struggles with a serpent. The words Estados Unidos Mexicanos are engraved above the seal and a cactus wreath frames it from below.

History

In the early years of availability, the Proof Mexican Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coin was issued with set mintage caps for the coin. The 1992 coin had a mintage cap of 5,000, while the next two years had a mintage of 5,002 coins. Since 1995, mintage figures have ebbed and flowed each year with a record low of 300 coins in 1998 and a record high of 12,550 coins in 2016.
