The coins in this set were struck on extra-deep blanks that allow for a unique high-relief design that has a 3D feel. You will notice a Perth Mint P Mint mark on all of the proof silver coins.

Obverse

On the obverse, you can see the image of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history. Her Majesty has held the throne since 1952, and her image has been featured on Australian coins for decades. The image used on these coins is actually the sixth used for Australian coinage. It was created by Jody Clark, the same man who designed the fifth-generation image of Queen Elizabeth II for Royal Mint of England coins.

Reverse

The reverse of the coins in this set features the image of mice on a corn stalk. Two mice have managed to peel back the husk of the coin to munch on the kernels of the coin found inside. These coins are struck in high-relief finishes to provide a dramatic 3D effect.

History

The Lunar Series III collection is brand-new to 2020, and these coins are the first release in the series. This series will run from 2020 to 2031 and feature 12 different coin designs based on the 12-year cycle of the Chinese lunar calendar. The previous two Lunar Series collections from the Perth Mint started and ended with the same coin releases as well.
