Obverse

On the obverse side of all 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of Winged Victory. Known to Mexican people as the Angel of Independence, her use dates back to the Mexican independence movement in the early 19th century. Today, she is revered as a powerful personification of the Mexican nation and its people. She is shown in this design with a crown wreath in one hand and broken chains in the other. She is perched at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column with the volcanic mountain peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl visible in the distance.

Reverse

The reverse face of 2020 Mexican Libertad Silver Coins features the design of the Mexican coat of arms. The national emblem focuses on a golden eagle battling a serpent. The two are locked in battle from the perch of a cactus arm and there is a wreath framing the element from below and the words Estados Unidos Mexicanos inscribed above.

History

The Mexican Libertad 1/20 oz Silver Coins were introduced to the program in 1991. This same year saw the debut of the 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/2 oz silver coins in the collection. Five years later in 1996, the Mexican Mint unveiled 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins, which were followed by a 1 Kilo silver coin in 2008.
