Mexican Libertad Gold Coins were first released in 1981. The series was only available for that one year before a 10-year halt in production, but that initial release did prove highly popular with investors. Included in the original release were three weights that are still produced today. That includes the 1/2 oz gold coin in the Mexican Libertad Series. Right now, you can buy the 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Gold Coin online from Provident Metals to add to your portfolio.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual protective flip!
  • 31st release of the Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Gold Coins!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • The obverse of the coins showcases Winged Victory.
  • On the reverse of the coins is the Mexican coat of arms.

Today, you can purchase 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Gold Coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are housed individually inside of protective plastic flips from the Mexican Mint. The 1/2 oz coins in this series typically have the lowest mintage figures among the five available weights.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Gold Coins is a depiction of Winged Victory. This figure is based on the Roman goddess Victoria, the goddess of victory. Her figure is typically depicted with a wreath crown in one hand and spear or staff with a scepter in the other hand. Mexican depictions of Winged Victory replace the spear/staff with broken chains to represent the nations freedom from Spain.

The background field of Mexican Libertad coins includes the two volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihatl. These active volcanoes are located outside of Mexico City and are visible from the urban area. Iztaccihuatl has a more unique visual appearance. The name of the mountain comes from Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, and means white woman. The snow-capped peaks have four distinct high points that resemble the head, chest, knees, and feet of a sleeping female when viewed from the east or west.

Reverse

The reverse of 2020 Mexican Libertad Gold Coins includes the modern coat of arms for Mexico. The seal includes a golden eagle and serpent on a cactus arm with Estados Unidos Mexicanos inscribed above and a wreath below.

History

Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Gold Coins hold the record for the third-highest mintage figure in the series. The debut 1981 release sold 193,000 coins in total. Like the 1 oz and 1/4 oz coin, the 1/2 oz coin was suspended from 1982 to 1990. Introduced again from 1991 to 1994, suspended from 1995 to 1999, reintroduced in 2000, halted again in 2001, and has been available annually since 2002.
