Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of all 2020 British Queens Beast White Horse 2 oz Silver Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. This is the fifth-generation effigy of the Queen and was designed in 2015 by Jody Clark and debuted in 2016 on British coins.

Reverse

The White Horse of Hanover is part of the Arms of Hanover and came to the Royal Arms with the ascension of King George I in 1714. George had been the Elector of Hanover since 1698 and came to the crown on the death of his second cousin, Queen Anne of England. The White Horse stands behind the shield. The Royal Arms of England before George I had four quadrants with the Three Lions and Lion of Scotland impaled together in two quadrants. George I removed one of those two depictions to place the full Arms of Hanover in the lower-right quadrant.

History

The White Horse of Hanover is the ninth release in the 10-coin Queens Beast Series. Launched in 2016, the series catalogs each of the 10 heraldic beasts in the Royal Arms of Englands history that have been passed down to Queen Elizabeth II.
