This verse speaks of the moment when Roman soldiers made a mockery of Jesus when his supporters made claims that was the new King of the Jews. The soldiers placed Jesus in purple robes and forced a crown of thorn branches onto his head. All during his trial and crucifixion, Jesus bled the crown of thorns that was forced upon his head.

The obverse design of the 2019 Niue Crown of Thorns Biblical Series 2 oz Silver Coin features the third-generation effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This design was introduced to British and commonwealth coinage in 1984, and was in use until 1997. The Queen is pictured with a youthful profile, as she wears the Royal Diadem crown.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 2019 Niue Crown of Thorns Biblical Series 2 oz Silver Coin features an image of Jesus seated, while soldiers look on and jeer while crowning him as the king of the Jews. The soldiers are said to have cried out, Hail, king of the Jews to him, and knelt down to mock worship him, before they spit upon him. Crown of Thorns is etched upon the reverse side of the coin.
