As is told in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, after Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, he made his way into the Judean Desert so that he could fast for 40 days and nights. At the end of the fasting period, Satan appeared and offered Jesus wealth and power over mankind if he would only kneel down before him and accept his authority.

Jesus refused this temptation and after he left the desert went on to begin his ministry in Galilee. The Biblical Series, from the Scottsdale Mint, captures the artworks of Gustave Dore and his depictions of biblical scenes in beautiful detail on silver coins. Dore was a noted French artist, printmaker, illustrator, and sculptor. One of his greatest collections is his illustration for the Bible completed in 1866 that went on to enjoy a major exhibition in London in 1867.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 2018 Niue Temptation of Jesus Biblical Series 2 oz Silver Coin features the right-profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This series uses the third-generation portrait of Her Majesty as was designed in 1984 by Raphael Maklouf and widely regarded as one of the most ornate of Her Majestys portraits on coinage.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2018 Niue Temptation of Jesus Biblical Series 2 oz Silver Coin features the artwork of Dores, showing the moment that Satan made an offer of evil to Jesus. During his fasting, Jesus was led up to the top of a mountain by Satan and was offered power and control over all of humanity if he would but kneel before Satan.

Your 2018 Niue Temptation of Jesus Biblical Series 2 oz Silver Coin features an antique finish. They also include individual serial numbers that are engraved on the sides of the coins. A Certificate of Authenticity is included inside of the Bible-inspired display box. The Certificate of Authenticity includes the chapter and verse of Matthew’s gospel in which Satans temptation of Jesus is told.
