History

The African Wildlife Series Elephant coin is available annually for Somalia since 2004, but was previously issued from 1999 to 2003 for Zambia. The coin series was originally available only in 1 oz silver and grew over time to include a 1 oz gold bullion coin, as well as various fractional-ounce silver coins, fractional-ounce gold coins, and a 1 oz platinum coin.

The series is offered by the Bavarian State Mint, a state-owned mint of Bavaria that is located in Munich.
