History

Block Island is a 9.73-square-mile island located in the Atlantic Ocean just 14 miles east of Long Island, New York, and nine miles south of Rhode Island. The island itself is on the Nature Conservancy list of the The Last Great Places. Popular with beachgoers, swimmers, and watersport enthusiasts in the summer months, the island has quite a reputation for attracting important visitors. US Presidents Bill Clinton, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Ulysses S. Grant all visited the island, as did both Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart in 1929.
