The Wild Canada Series features six privy mark releases between 2016 and 2018, each one offering a privy mark reflective of the animals featured in full designs in the Canadian Wildlife Series. While the latter was a standalone coin program, the Wild Canada Series uses the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin with a small privy mark and reverse proof visuals to create a distinctive collection.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is depicted in right-profile relief on the obverse of the 2017 Cougar Privy Canadian Maple Leaf Reverse Proof 1 oz Silver Coin. This effigy is the fourth-generation portrait of the Queen on Canadian coins and was designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. Ms. Blunt is the second Canadian artist ever to design a monarch portrait and her effigy of Elizabeth II is the first of a monarch since King George VI to lack a crown in the design.

Reverse

A sugar maple leaf is featured in the center of the 2017 Cougar Privy Canadian Maple Leaf Reverse Proof 1 oz Silver Coins. The sugar maple leaf featured on these coins was designed in 1979 by Walter Ott for use on the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin. It is accompanied in this design by a cougar head privy in the lower-left field.

History

Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coins debuted in 1988. Almost immediately the Royal Canadian Mint used the bullion platform as the vehicle for unique privy mark releases. The first of those came in 1989 when the mint celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coins with a privy mark on the silver coins.

Ordering

These 2017 Cougar Privy Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins have frosted background fields with mirrored design elements. Each coin is available individually in a protective flip, while multiples are housed in tubes of 25 or boxes of 500.
