Obverse
On the obverse of these coins, you will see the right-profile image of Queen Elizabeth II. This image was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt for use on Canadian coinage. Reverse
The reverse image is of a male bighorn sheep. He looks off into the distance with his curled horns, which are a status symbol for bighorn sheep. Engravings on this side of the coin include the nation and year of issue, weight, and purity of the coin, and a mintmark.
History
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 as the official sovereign mint of the nation. Originally, the RCM refined gold and silver from the Yukon Territories. In the 1970s, the Ottawa facility was joined by the Winnipeg facility to create the RCM system in the 1980s.
