Obverse
On the obverse field of the 2017 Republic of Chad Lion 1 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of a female lion silently stalking her prey. The only inscription on this face of the coin is African Lion. The lion species lives in family units known as prides with one adult male per pride and a group of lionesses. It is primarily the job of the lionesses in the pride to hunt food for the group.
Reverse
The reverse of 2017 Republic of Chad Lion Coins includes the image of the African continent. The whole of the continent has a separate polish from that which is applied to the outline of the Republic of Chad. This helps the outline of the nation stand out in an otherwise blank depiction of Africa as a whole. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Republique du Tchad, 5000 Francs CFA, 2017, and 1 oz 999 Fine Silver.
History
Like other popular silver bullion coin programs, the Republic of Chad coins use a new design element on the obverse face each year. The release following these 2017 coins in 2018 came with the depiction of a large alpha male lion and his overwhelming mane dominating the field.
