Big Ben is the colloquial name associated with the largest bell inside of the building originally named Clock Tower. Located at the north end of the Palace at Westminster, the name of the largest bell is thought by some of have come from the man who oversaw its installation in 1859, Sir Benjamin Hall. The name Big Ben became so popular that it became associated with the clock and broader tower itself, even though the tower was recently renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse face of all 2017 British Big Ben 1 oz Silver Coins. Her Majesty is featured here in right-profile relief in one of the earlier uses of the new fifth-generation effigy on British coins. It depicts the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. Jody Clark created this image in 2015 for the Royal Mint of England, making Mr. Clark the youngest artist ever to create a monarchs portrait for British currency.

Reverse

Big Ben towers above the viewer in the reverse design of the 2017 British Big Ben 1 oz Silver Coins. The Clock Tower, as it was originally known, is visible in this design as one might see it were they standing at the base of the tower looking up at the 315-foot tall building.
