The 2016 issue of the American Eagle Silver coin program was a special one as the United States Mint celebrated the 30th anniversary of the program. Nowhere was this more evident than on the Proof American Eagle Silver Coins. While all coins had the 2016 date mark special to collectors as the 30th-anniversary issue, only the proof coin had the first-ever edge-lettering for this series. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase a perfect condition 2016-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin online at Provident Metals.
In 2016, the United States Mint issued the Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin with edge-lettering for the first time in the programs history. No American Eagle coin had ever previously featured edge-lettering and this distinctive inscription celebrated the occasion in style. The US Mint used an incuse strike to sink the words 30th Anniversary in the surface of the coins edge.
The obverse field of the 2016-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin comes with the Walking Liberty design from Adolph A. Weinman. This design was created in 1916 and depicts Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon. It originally featured on the half dollar from 1916 to 1947.
On the reverse side of 2016-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coins is the heraldic eagle of the United States. The national seal, this design was first created in 1792 and has been modified in stages over the course of American history. This design comes from John Mercanti and was modified in 1986.
Introduced in 1986, the Proof American Eagle Silver Coin and the broader series celebrated 30 years in 2016. The US Mints use of an incuse edge-lettered strike in 2016 was limited to these proof coins. As a result of the incuse edge strike, the US Mint produced the coins with a smooth edge for the first time since 1986, suspending the traditional reeded edge for the year.
These 2016-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available in PR70 condition. Each coin is a perfect specimen with full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind present. The DCAM designation stands for deep-cameo and refers to the presence of strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
