One of the most unique gold coins produced in the modern era was the 2015 Valcambi Armillary Sphere. This unique gold bullion coin issued on behalf of the Cook Islands was a diverse piece that could be viewed as a traditional coin, broken out into several small rings of gold, or turned into a spherical shape by the end-user. Right now, you can get the 2015 Valcambi Armillary Sphere 1 oz Gold Coin online courtesy of Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a presentation case!
  • Issued in 2015 by Valcambi Suisse!

  • On the obverse are four separate effigies of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse features the Valcambi name in an elegant script.

With your purchase of the 2015 Valcambi Armillary Sphere 1 oz Gold Coin through this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that is housed in a presentation case. The design of the Valcambi Armillary Sphere Gold Coin is entirely unique in the gold bullion marketplace. The singular 1 oz gold coin has .9999 pure gold content with a combined face value of $100 (CID).

The coin can take on many forms. If youd like, you can leave it as a singular, circular 1 oz gold coin. It can also transform into an armillary sphere, an ancient tool used in modeling the objects in the night sky. If youd like, you can even separate the four concentric rings into separate 1/4 oz gold coins with a face value of $25 (CID). Please note, however, that separating the rings means you will no longer be able to reconnect the rings and form the armillary sphere.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2015 Armillary Sphere 1 oz Gold Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majestys effigy featured here is the fourth-generation design from the Royal Mint and was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Each concentric circle in the armillary coin has its own effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Each circle also has its own inscription of Elizabeth II, Cook Islands, 2015, $25, and Au 999,9 1/4 oz.

Reverse

The reverse side of 2015 Armillary Sphere 1 oz Gold Coins features only a singular, repeating inscription. Using an elegant script text, the word Valcambi is inscribed across the coin in full once with smaller segments visible as well.

History

The armillary sphere has long been used to model celestial objects in the sky. The sphere can be used with the Earth as the center or the Sun as the center. When the Earth is the center, the sphere is referred to as a Ptolemaic, while the Sun at the center results in the use of the term Copernican.
