The 1 oz Silver Niue Hawksbill Turtle Coin is an annual release from the New Zealand Mint, and like its predecessors, the 2015 coin consists of 99.9% fine silver and functions as legal tender in the island nation of Niue. The silver hawksbill coins are minted in an IRA approved facility insuring that each coin is manufactured with industry best practices. The 2015 1 oz Silver Niue Hawksbill Turtle Coin will make a valuable and beautiful addition to any silver collection.

The 2015 1 oz Silver Niue Hawksbill Turtle Coin features one of two primary sea turtle species that naturally occur in the South Pacific. The Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata bissa) get its name from a sharp, pointed head, which resembles that of a bird. The hawksbill sea turtle is critically endangered throughout its native range due to over-hunting and long generation times. The hawksbill was hunted for its ornate carapace, which has a long history as a commodity. Because of challenges the hawksbill faces, and its survival in spite of them, it is rapidly becoming a rallying standard and symbol of perseverance and preservation in Micronesia, New Zealand and Australia.

In 2014 the “Hawksbill Turtle” replaced the original “Fiji Taku” due to changes in licensing agreements. While the name has changed, the Hawksbill design is similar to its predecessors by capturing one of the many beautiful creatures that live in the South Pacific.

The reverse of this 1 oz silver coin features a beautifully crafted dorsal profile of the hawksbill turtle swimming among bubbles in the Pacific Ocean. The stylized shell carries symbols reminiscent of oceanic waves. “TURTLE” and “FINE SILVER .999 1 OZ” are inscribed above and below the image of the turtle.

Like the sovereign minted rounds from other members of the Commonwealth of Nations, the obverse of the 1 oz Silver Niue Hawksbill Turtle Coin carries Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions of “QUEEN ELIZABETH II”, “NIUE”, “TWO DOLLARS” and the issuing year appear near the coin’s rim.

Investing in silver bullion has long been a strategy to hedge against inflation and volatility, and the 1 oz Silver Niue Hawksbill Turtle Coin is a beautiful addition to Provident Metal’s offerings of foreign silver bullion. Provident Metals receives and ships each coin in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Single coins ship in plastic envelopes, quantities of 20 ship in plastic tubes, and quantities of 500 in monster boxes.
