The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s formal portrait of Canada’s monarch, along with the words ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA.
The Horse is the fifth coin in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Lunar series, and those born in the year of the horse are said to be energetic, bright and popular–though they sometimes have negative attributes like a quick temper and poor budgeting skills.
Horses were first domesticated around 4000 BC and have been used around the world for transportation and to cart heavy burdens. Interestingly, they have 205 bones in their muscular bodies and, unlike humans, horses lack a collarbone. The animal’s knee is similar to a human wrist. They can sleep both standing or lying down.
