Honoring Oliver Hazard Perry and the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812, the U.S. Mint’s 17th release in the America the Beautiful (ATB) silver bullion coin series is Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial 5 oz Silver coin. Like all in the ATB series, each coin is composed of 5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver and can be secured at Provident Metals.
The reverse of each brilliant uncirculated coin portrays the statue of Perry, U.S. Navy Commodore, appearing before the Peace Memorial in Ohio. Inscriptions surrounding the image include “PERRY’S VICTORY,” “OHIO,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “2013.”
Perry earned the name “Hero of Lake Erie” after serving in the War of 1812 and guiding American troops to a pivotal victory in the Battle of Lake Erie. Ultimately, he garnered a Congressional Gold Medal by playing a decisive role in nine battles throughout the war.
Standing 352 feet above Lake Erie, the Doric column Memorial is among the tallest in the United States. It was established on March 3, 1919 as a national site to celebrate peace among the U.S., Canada and Britain and pay homage to those who fought in the War of 1812 at the Battle of Lake Erie. It also bears Perry’s name.
The obverse features John Flanagan’s familiar and restored portrait of George Washington. The inscriptions read “QUARTER DOLLAR,” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “LIBERTY” and the mint mark “P,” showing it was minted at the U.S. Mint’s Philadelphia facility.
The five ounce Perry’s Victory & Peace Park 5 oz Silver coin is the second of five to be released in 2013. Each design in the program features national parks and sites across the United States.

I am somewhat new to this, but my expectations had been raised when I received Ft. McHenry & Mt. Rushmore in a previous order. Both were beautiful! I then ordered the Full house, all five for this year. I opened the other four and each was better looking than the previous. The last to be open was Perry. I can easily get past it is the least attractive of the 5, put there is a major tarnish around 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock. Looks brushed. It is a good thing My Wife loves the others, lest this might have been the last purchase of Silver. MAJOR QAQI deficit at the Mint."

I really like the design of this coin. I didn't notice it until after I read these reviews, but the coin does appear to be buffed. That doesn't bother me much, since it's not immediately noticeable. There is, however, a small but cery clear scratch on the reverse."

At first I thought that PM had sent me a used coin that someone had used as a drink coaster on their end table. After reading these reviews it appears to be a quality control problem during manufacture. Not PM's fault but still a bummer."

I bought one of these in the sprig of 2013 when they came out and was surprised at the markings on it and then I saw others were having the same problem. When silver went down in price in June 2014 I bought another one. This second one is pristine so maybe the mint fixed whatever problem they were having?

Not sure how to describe the condition because straight on it looks good but at an angel it looks buffed. Once its in a display case it will be fine. Its bullion so I expect it not to be like a proof coin. No scratches or any major issues. I do like the fact PM puts it in a air tite. I give the coin 4 stars and PM 5 stars. Thanks PM..;)

I’ve just started collecting these bullion pucks. I was pretty disappointed when I opened the package and found my Perry puck – with what appeared to be a wipe using steel wool across the obverse of the coin. The finish is also less than mirror like – and more of a sating finish on this coin. Pretty much a 5 ounce scrap bullion coin.
