In the obverse design of the 2013 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin, the Austrian Mint features a vision of the Great Pipe Organ. This design element shows the organ that is housed within the Musikverein. This is the third version of the organ installed in the Golden Concert Hall following the buildings completion in the 1870s. Inscriptions include REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 1 UNZE GOLD 999.9, 2013, and 100 EURO.

For the reverse face of 2013 Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coins, the mint features a collection of musical instruments. This design shows a cello in the center with two violins on either side. The background includes a harp, a bassoon, and a horn. Inscriptions on this face include WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.

Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins debuted in 1989 with 1 oz and 1/4 oz weights. The series grew to 1/10 oz in 1991, 1/4 oz in 1994, and 1/25 oz in 2014. The silver coin debuted in 2008 and was followed by the platinum coin in 2016.
