The America the Beautiful Series from the United States Mint is a robust 56-coin program that represents each of the 50 US states, 5 overseas territories, and the District of Columbia with individual designs. Each state or jurisdiction is represented by a national park, forest, or other federally protected landscape or monument chosen by a civilian committee. Today, you have the opportunity to get the 2012-P Burnished ATB Acadia 5 oz Silver Coin online at Provident Metals.
Burnished ATB Silver coins are produced by the United States Mint in the same process that results in the burnished versions of the American Eagle silver and gold coins. The silver blanks are first polished in a drum with a burnishing medium that creates a matte visual appearance. The blanks are handled with gloved hands from removal to coining and packaging. Each coin is struck individually and packaged immediately after coining.
On the obverse face of all 2012-P Burnished ATB Silver Coins is an image of President George Washington. This is a modified version of the 1932 design created by John Flanagan for the circulating US quarter. Washington was chosen as the new obverse on US quarters in 1932 to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth.
The reverse side of the 2012-P Burnished ATB Acadia 5 oz Silver Coin includes an image of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. The lighthouse dates back to 1855 when it was determined there was a significant need for a lighthouse at the mouth of Bass Harbor along the central coast of Maine. In 1885, Congress appropriated $5,000 to build the lighthouse and today the lighthouse is logged in the National Register of Historic Places.
Acadia National Park has a history of name changes since it was established in 1916. President Woodrow Wilson established the region as a federally protected park via a proclamation in 1916 naming it Sieur de Monts National Monument. It was renamed and redesignated as Lafayette National Park in 1919, making it the first national park in the US east of the Mississippi River and the only one in the northeast. The park was again renamed in 1929 as Acadia National Park.
2012-P Burnished ATB Acadia 5 oz Silver Coins arrive with a US Mint presentation display and a Certificate of Authenticity.
